Worn spark plugs and failing coils cause misfires, rough idling, hard starts, poor fuel economy, and that shaky feeling at a red light. Sam's Mobile Mechanic replaces plugs and coils at your location with the correct parts and the correct torque.

Spark plugs are a maintenance item with a real interval. Copper plugs may need changing around thirty thousand miles, while iridium and platinum plugs often run a hundred thousand. Running them well past that does not save money. Weak spark makes the coil work harder, and an overworked coil fails, so a cheap plug job you skipped turns into an expensive coil job later.

We identify which cylinder is misfiring from the diagnostic data rather than replacing everything and hoping. Plugs get gapped correctly and torqued to spec, because an over-tightened plug in an aluminum head is a very expensive mistake and a loose one blows out.

What's included

  • Misfire traced to the specific cylinder
  • Correct plug type, gap, and torque spec
  • Ignition coil and coil pack replacement
  • Plug wire and boot inspection
  • Fuel trim and compression checks when needed

Signs you need this service

These are the symptoms customers describe most often, and what each one usually means.

Shaking or rough idle at a stop
A dead cylinder throws the engine out of balance. You feel it most when the car is stopped.
Hesitation or stumble on acceleration
Under load, a weak coil cannot fire the plug and the engine breaks up.
Fuel economy dropping for no reason
Unburned fuel from a misfiring cylinder goes straight out the exhaust.
Hard starting, especially when cold or damp
Worn plugs need more voltage than a cold engine and a tired coil can supply.

How we handle it on-site

Because we are mobile, the process is a little different from a shop. You tell us the year, make, model, and what the car is doing. We give you a likely diagnosis and a price range on the phone. A certified mechanic then drives to wherever the car is parked, confirms the fault with real testing, and only then does the work at the price you agreed to.

We serve Philadelphia and the surrounding region around the clock, which includes Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey, northern Delaware, and Elkton, Maryland. Call or text (215) 384-3065 and we will tell you honestly whether this is a job we can finish at your address.

“Couldn’t say better things! My car battery died and I needed to replace it same day. They came out in 45 minutes from when I called and changed it so quickly and efficiently. Great experience! Don’t hesitate to call them!”

“My car hasn’t started since July 3rd and we thought it was an issue with the starter. But Sam came out and saw that it was just a dead battery and replaced it quickly. He gave great service and even gave me free windshield wipers. I’d definitely call him again”

Questions about spark plugs & ignition coils

Do you really come to my house or work?

Yes. That is the whole business. Sam's Mobile Mechanic is a mobile service, so a certified mechanic drives to your home, apartment lot, office parking lot, or the roadside with the tools and parts to do the job there. You do not drop the car off and you do not wait in a lobby.

How much do you charge?

You get a price before any work begins. We quote the repair once we know what is actually wrong, and that number is what you pay. No hidden shop fees, no surprise add-ons at the end.

What kind of repairs can you do on-site?

Most of them. Brakes, batteries, alternators, starters, spark plugs and coils, oil and fluid services, AC work, sensors, belts, hoses, thermostats, diagnostics, and full maintenance are all routine at your location. Jobs that genuinely need a lift, a press, or machine work are the exceptions, and we tell you straight when that is the case.

Do you charge for diagnostics?

There is a diagnostic fee when a fault needs real testing rather than a quick look, and we apply it to the repair if you have us do the work. We tell you the fee before we come out.

What areas do you serve?

Philadelphia and the surrounding region, including Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey from Camden down through Gloucester and Burlington counties, northern Delaware, and Elkton in Maryland. There are individual pages for every city we cover on this site.
